IR Windows

An infrared inspection window (IR window) is a window that is used to separate environments of differing pressures or temperatures. These windows allow infrared radiation to transmit through them so that a data point can be recorded safely using a thermal camera.

IR windows are also called viewports or viewing panes and must meet the strength and environmental requirements for the type of equipment they are fitted for. The windows must also be compatible with the infrared equipment being used. The windows can be of various shapes and sizes, including square, round, rectangular, and, custom.

Worker Injuries & Electrical Outages

Because many companies do not follow proper electrical inspection protocols, thousands of electrical workers are injured every year. Some of these injuries are even fatal. And these companies lose billions of dollars in unplanned outages and equipment failures.

Fortunately, IR windows enable you to eliminate hazardous conditions when electrical assets are inspected. IR windows keep your workers safe, prevent electrical outages, and keep your company compliant with NFPA 70E regulations.

How IR Windows Work:

  • IR windows mitigate the risk of injury to or death of workers who perform essential energized inspections on electrical equipment
  • They do this by maintaining an enclosed and guarded condition for the worker

Use IR Windows to:

  • Perform temperature readings, thermal imaging, and visual inspections on electrical equipment
  • Collect real-time, condition status data on critical electrical systems and components under full load
  • Protect electrical workers from injury or death
  • Prevent thousands of dollars in losses to your business due to electrical outages and equipment failure

IR Window Products

The CAP-ENV Series

The CAP-ENV features a reinforced, environmentally sealed door design and the largest visually clear infrared (IR) transmissive viewing area available on the market today. The exclusive, pharmaceutical-grade, reinforced polymer system allows any thermography camera to monitor completely undisturbed assets inside energized electrical equipment on the visual, UV and shortwave, mid-wave, and longwave IR spectrums. The larger rectangular viewing area provides an unparalleled field of view when compared to traditional round IR windows. Constructed completely from stainless steel, the CAP-ENV series is recommended for outdoor applications.

CAP-CT Series

The CAP-CT Series

The CAP-CT Series has the largest visually clear infrared (IR) transmissive viewing area available. The exclusive, pharmaceutical-grade, reinforced Poly-View System™ polymer allows any thermography camera to monitor completely undisturbed assets inside energized electrical equipment on the visual, UV and shortwave, mid-wave, and longwave IR spectrums. The larger rectangular viewing area provides an unparalleled field of view when compared to traditional round IR windows. The CAP-CT offers locking covers for your IR window. These are useful in areas of high traffic. They protect the IR viewing panes from impacts, flying debris, and dust. Constructed from aluminum, the CAP-CT series is recommended for all indoor applications.

The CAP-ENV-PDS Series

The environmentally reinforced CAP-ENV-PDS is a revolutionary inspection window. It combines the power of thermal imaging, visual, UV, ultrasound and partial discharge inspections. Industrial applications require solutions that meet numerous criteria where safety and performance are of the utmost importance. The exclusive, pharmaceutical-grade, reinforced polymer system allows any thermography camera to monitor completely undisturbed assets inside energized electrical equipment on the visual, UV and shortwave, mid-wave, and longwave IR spectrums.

CAP-4-US-1

The CAP-4-US

The CAP-4-US infrared window equipped with a versatile port for ultrasound inspections is the ideal way to identify electrical faults. Industrial applications require solutions that meet numerous criteria where safety and performance are of the utmost importance. To accommodate this demand, the CAP-4-US combines the transparent CAP-CT-4, opaque CAP-C-4, and the benefits of ultrasound (US) inspection in one window. The award-winning, CAP-4-US comes equipped with a square four-inch IR window and a US port on one easy-to-install panel. The viewing area of the CAP-4-US offers a 30% increase in FOV over round windows. It also provides a method for accessing quality acoustics data that easily identifies potentially hazardous faults such as arcing, tracking, and corona in electrical distribution systems and switchgear.
